Sammi Waugh is a dance artist located in Southern California. Born in Austin, TX, she trained for 15 years in various styles before moving to California to further her dance education. She graduated from Chapman University with a BFA in Dance Performance and an Interdisciplinary Honors minor. At Chapman, she worked with and performed works choreographed by faculty, students, and guest artists, including Dwight Rhoden, Ido Tadmor, Jennifer Backhaus, Sean Greene, Brandee Lara, and Alicia Guy. She also presented ten of her own original choreographic works and taught technique and creative movement classes to all levels.
Sammi has pursued additional training through intensives and workshops, such as Joffrey Ballet School and Backhausdance’s Summer Intensives, and The Theorists’ Gaga Toolbox Series workshops with Amy Morrow. She has performed with Sling Dance Project in Austin, TX, and Backhausdance in Orange, CA, and is a current apprentice with Backhausdance.
Passionate about dance education, she has taught both locally at various studios and a nearby elementary school and globally in small villages in Cambodia. She hopes to continue pursuing her passion for performance and dance education, and use it to bring quality arts education to a wider audience in Southern California.
